"Interconnecting" refers to the process of connecting a Distributed Generation (DG) system—such as wind, solar, battery or fossil fuel—to Mississippi Power’s Electric Distribution System for the purpose of parallel operation. Customers interested in connecting their DG system to Mississippi Power’s Electric Distribution System should follow the interconnection process outlined below.
Generally, MPC’s interconnection process is governed by the Mississippi Public Service Commission’s Distributed Generation Rules, Mississippi Power’s Distribution Generator Interconnection Procedures, Southern Company’s Operation of Distribution Generator Interconnection Procedure in Parallel with the Distribution System Policy and MPC’s Rules Governing Electric Service. Information for each governing document can be found via the links below:
Your interconnection request will be initially categorized as either a Level 1, 2 or 3 application based on the following criteria:
Once you have selected an installer for your DG system, you can collaborate with them to initiate the application process with Mississippi Power. This process can be started by emailing the completed application, available via the links above, to MPCInterconnections@southernco.com. Typically, your installer will manage the application process on your behalf, keeping you informed of the progress and next steps throughout the interconnection process.
Please note that it is the responsibility of the customer and/or the system installer to comply with any local building and electrical code requirements before beginning the installation of the DG system. After installation, the DG system should remain off until Mississippi Power has provided a Certificate of Completion via email. Upon receipt of the Certification of Completion from Mississippi Power, the customer can proceed with the parallel operation of their facility with Mississippi Power’s Electric Distribution System.
