Gulfport, MS. – Mississippi Power employees have started the holiday season strong with a string of community service events across the company’s service territory.
In Meridian, nearly 20 Mississippi Power volunteers spent time decorating the Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian for Christmas. Following a years-long tradition, employee volunteers installed a 20-foot-tall Christmas tree, hung décor throughout the museum and added holiday lights to the building’s exterior.
More than a dozen Mississippi Power employees in Hattiesburg teamed up with Extra Table for their “Henny 500” – a statewide event where Extra Table provides chickens and cornbread dressing to local food pantries. The pantries then distribute the meals to families in need ahead of Thanksgiving.
“We were happy to partner with Extra Table for this holiday project,” said Mississippi Power Pine Belt Community Connection Chapter President Jashawn Baxter. “We know the positive impact this organization has on our community, and it’s a great way for us to kick off the season of giving back here in the Pine Belt.”
Meanwhile, Mississippi Power’s Coast Community Connection chapter partnered with Gulf Coast Community Ministries to provide essential items for meal kits. Mississippi Power volunteers shopped and filled dozens of meals bags with canned vegetables, stuffing kits and even dessert items so local families in the area could enjoy Thanksgiving dinner.
These efforts marked the beginning of holiday service projects that Mississippi Power employees participate in each year.
“We always look forward to this time of year,” said Mississippi Power Coast Community Chapter President Candi Dubuisson. “Our employees are eager to help those in need any way that they can. We’ve already got the ball rolling on other holiday projects and are looking forward to making a difference in our community.”
