Mississippi Power volunteers from the East Mississippi Community Connection chapter recently helped senior citizens, widows and disabled residents complete outdoor tasks at their homes during Lauderdale County School District’s third-annual Day of Service.
“Our Community Connection chapter remains dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others, and we were honored to assist those in need during this service project,” said East Mississippi Community Connection Secretary Miranda Williams. “Seeing the smiles across their faces truly made the experience unforgettable, and we hope to participate again next year.”
Employees worked alongside local high school students to assist with home projects such as raking leaves, picking up tree limbs, cleaning flower beds, trimming trees and bushes, removing vines from fences and more.
Without the effort from volunteers, many of these residents would not have been able to complete the work on their own.
“We were able to get some help from Mississippi Power. They came out here with power tools, equipment and manpower,” said Kenny Watson, Southeast High School law and public safety instructor. “We have been able to get a lot of this yard cleaned up and get a lot of debris removed. It has been great.”
