Mississippi Power crews travel to assist in Winter Storm Landon restoration

A Mississippi Power storm team of 79 linemen, engineers and support personnel departed Tuesday morning to assist the American Electric Power/Public Service of Oklahoma restoration effort following Winter Storm Landon.

Crews met early Tuesday and left from service centers in Gulfport, Pascagoula, Hattiesburg, and Meridian. About 90 of the company’s contractors also are making the trip to Oklahoma, some of them scheduled to help Oncor’s restoration.

The storm team is scheduled to travel to Paris, Texas, today then move into the Tulsa, Oklahoma, area Wednesday morning ahead of the storm.

“Our team is excited to go and support AEP/PSO in this restoration effort,” said Shared Services Manager Scott Cashwell. “Our focus, as always, will be on safety. We have worked winter storms during the pandemic, so that experience will be valuable for us as we prepare to work in snow and ice.”

The forecast calls for Landon to bring Oklahoma up to 7 inches of snow in addition to sleet and ice accumulation on Wednesday.
