Gulfport, Miss. – Mississippi Power has been closely monitoring the severe winter weather that is currently moving through our service territory and is prepared to respond to our customers’ needs.
The company routinely does maintenance on its generation facilities during milder weather to ensure they are in the best working conditions to meet high customer demand. Additionally, we have updated equipment at our generation facilities and completed pre-winter inspections on our power delivery system.
“The plans we’ve put into action have ensured that we’re in a strong position to meet the expected high demand,” said Mississippi Power Vice President and Senior Production Officer Mike Smith. “Our Generation team is ready to serve our customers this week, and we’ve prepared our equipment and facilities against the cold just like our customers are preparing their own homes.”
Additional plans include sequestering employees at generation facilities if needed to ensure their safety and ability to maintain the plants. Line crews are also prepared to respond if ice impacts powerlines or other equipment.
Customers are urged to stay safe and weather aware as extended freezing temperatures are expected throughout the week.
