Giving back to the communities we serve

Group of people

Members of the Pine Belt chapter of Mississippi Power Community Connection joined the fight against hunger by raising $24,000 through a golf tournament for the non-profit group Extra Table, which provides food services throughout Mississippi. They purchase healthy food in bulk from Sysco and distribute it to food pantries and soup kitchens.

At Mississippi Power we understand the importance of giving back to the communities and customers we serve. Dating from the company's inception in 1925, providing financial support through partnerships and grants has been of key importance to making our communities a better place to live, work and play. The company's giving strategy guides its foundation, corporate and employee donations to the focus areas customers have told us are important. In 2015, more than $2.4 million went to enriching our communities through education, community relations, economic development and environmental effort donations.

Mississippi Power and our employees are pacesetters in supporting United Way with financial and volunteer support. More than $400,000 and countless hours of volunteer time were donated this year to agencies in the communities across the Mississippi Power service area where we continue to Live United.

On February 10, 2013, a devastating EF4 tornado, with winds as high as 170 mph, cut across the Pine Belt area. While employees rallied to help clean debris in areas of Lamar County, Hattiesburg and Petal, Mississippi Power, along with parent company, Southern Company, donated $100,000 of financial support to the Greater Pine Belt Community Foundation to assist in rebuilding their communities.
